Raw’ is out now in cinemas across the UK. It follows stringent vegetarian Justine (Garance Marillier) encountering a decadent, merciless and dangerously seductive world during her first week at veterinary school. Desperate to fit in, she strays from her principles and eats raw meat for the first time. The young woman soon experiences terrible and unexpected consequences as her true self begins to emerge. As director Julia Ducournau alluded to in her recent Time Out interview, after the film made headlines at the 2016 Toronto Film Festival when a couple of people fainted and were taken to hospital — the real horror is ‘pretty much in your head’. “In everyone’s mind it’s really gory, but I didn’t overdo the blood. The movie shocks people because it’s not gory”. Rather than relying on established shock tactics, Ducournau is in fact one of a new generation of female horror filmmakers transforming the traditionally sexist genre.

The film features music composed by Jim Williams, whose past scores include the four Ben Wheatley films ‘Down Terrace’ , ‘Kill List’, ‘Sightseers’, and ‘A Field in England’, as well as upcoming Gary Love thriller ‘The Dark Mile’, which is to be released later this year.  The ‘Raw’ film soundtrack is available now on iTunes.
