Biography
Justin is an experienced film and television composer and has created music scores across all genres, from wildlife documentaries through to animated feature films. His songs have been used in features for Miramax and Pathé.
“Justin Nicholls is an extraordinary composer. I’ve worked with him consistently over the past eight years on a range of award winning Anglo-American documentaries. I work with Justin because he constantly surprises me — the width of his range, his attentiveness to emotion and rhythm, his ability to relate sound to image. My programmes would be immeasurably poorer without his music”.
“I have worked with Justin Nicholls since 1989. During that time, he has composed the title music for five broadcast television projects I have produced. Justin is outstanding in his ability to take a complicated brief and produce music which accurately captures the spirit of a project. His work is always highly original and complements and improves the visual images he works with”.
“Justin was invigorating to work with. He had lots of ideas and worked hard to fine tune them until we had a fantastic score for the programme. I found his professionalism and high quality of workmanship a pleasure”.
“I commissioned Justin to write the title music for a new television series for BBC1’s Heart of the Matter. The results were excellent. Justin proved to be an intelligent and imaginative composer both professional and flexible in his outlook. The Heart of the Matter title music has been consistently in demand by viewers and remains fresh and compelling”.
“Pioneer Productions has worked with Justin for 10 years on a wide variety of high profile projects. He is a gifted and talented musician and composer who is able to cope with great pressure whilst maintaining his creative genius. I would not hesitate to commission him for even the largest feature film”.
The Great British Holiday …“Helped by the dramatically changing Cornish light and with terrific music by Justin Nicholls, this was an artful and enjoyable slice of social history”.
“So, how would you slip into the presence of a sonic genius? Meet Monc, an amazing talent who has a knack for writing superb tunes as well as for surrounding himself with musicians who can play rock, alta-rock, worldbeat, jazz and funk. The amazing feat is that Monc’s melodies insinuate their way into your brainpan, where they absolutely insist that you try to sing them. Certainly the album of the month, “M” is a strong candidate for one of the ten best of the year”.
