Biography

Since graduating from the National Film & Television School, Mat has spent that last decade writing music for feature films, documentaries & ad campaigns. He has written music for the BBC, PBS, Sky, Channel 4, National Geographic, and other major broadcasters worldwide.

His career gained momentum after composing the score for Jamie J. Johnson’s feature film “Sounds Like Teen Spirit”, and a major ad campaign for Yellow Pages “Behind the Numbers”.

Mat soon began a long standing collaboration with filmmaker Olly Lambert, producing over 14 hours of television that include the 7 part series “The Family” (Channel 4), and the BAFTA and EMMY award winning “Syria: Across the Lines” (PBS / Channel 4). Mat continued to work with Olly during his stint as the first filmmaker in residence for the BBC’s flagship current affairs programme Newsnight, which often required completing the score in just one day.

Mat has also been able to indulge his interest in wildlife through collaborations with NatGeo explorer, zoologist, award-winning filmmaker & presenter Lucy Cooke, whose films have brought enormous attention worldwide to the life of sloths.

More recently Mat has written music for Kate Hardie & Grayson Perry’s Sky 1 drama “Mr Understood”, and Channel 4’s BAFTA nominated series Educating the East End.
