Biography
The partnership of James Morgan and Juliette Pochin — collectively known as Morgan Pochin — has emerged as one of the most exciting of their generation, working in a huge variety of fields from BAFTA award winning TV series to UK album chart success, and most recently, their first feature film.
They first worked together at Cambridge where they both read music, and went on to write for Armstrong and Miller (C4). Other TV credits include the Emmy/BAFTA winning The Kumars at no.42, According to Becs (BBC1), Sermon from St.Albion’s (Harry Enfield/Ian Hislop), War Months (Discovery), The Thing about Vince (Timothy Spall — ITV), Horizon (BBC1) and Dumber and Dumber (C5).
They recently completed their first feature film First Night (Richard E Grant, Sarah Brightman), due for release early next year.
Their production and writing credits include the Brit-nominated, gold selling Katherine Jenkins (Premiere), Songs Without Words, (UK top 20), Now is the hour — Jane Horrocks/Gracie Fields (UK top 30), Classic Rock (Decca), Swimming over London — King’s Singers (Signum), Poetry Serenade — Brian Knowles (Signum), and numerous compilations. They have produced artists as diverse as Julian Lloyd Webber and Elton John, and wrote and produced Juliette’s debut album Venezia for Sony Classical to critical acclaim (Classic FM Record of the Week).
Their choral piece Kyrie was premiered on BBC R3, and their compositions and arrangements have been broadcast on BBC R2 and 3, Classic FM and on BBC TV and ITV, including the Classical Brits. Other commissions include the epic Kubla Khan for the Philharmonia Orchestra and over 300 performers at the Brighton Festival.
As orchestrators, and arrangers, credits include scores for BBC, ITV and C4, Tangier Tattoo for Glyndebourne (‘sensuously crafted orchestral effects’ — The Times), Gaddafi for ENO and tracks by Peter Gabriel, Fatboy Slim, Michael Bolton and Katie Melua.
James is also a conductor, working with artists as diverse as Glyndebourne, ENO, Andrea Bocelli, the RPO, Il Divo, the BBC Singers and Rick Astley; his work is regularly broadcast on BBC Radio and he has conducted numerous CD recordings — most recently Diva for Danielle de Niese with the LPO.
Juliette is an acclaimed mezzo soprano, nicknamed the Domestic Diva by the Daily Mail, who’s career has included such diverse highlights as performing Sea Pictures with Iain Burnside and Gerontius with the CBSO, to a performance with Meatloaf on ITV’s Popstar to Opera Star, and having a chocolate named after her by Hotel Chocolat.
Juliette has just finished recording the follow up to Venezia, her recent release of Vaughan Williams songs with Iain Burnside was Gramophone Editor’s Choice, and she features on a number of other recent albums, including Classical Greats (Sony BMG), Classical Voices (Sony BMG), the No.1 Classical Album 2009 (UCJ) and Classical Voices 2010 (Decca).
