Q: How did you get involved in the ‘Eternal Beauty’ Project?

"I’d scored Craig Roberts’ first film called ‘Just Jim’ which was a beautiful, creative, wild ride and so when he gave me a call about a new film he was putting together – Eternal Beauty – then it was a no brainer really to want to be involved. With Sally Hawkins’ extraordinary performance and Craig’s amazing script – yeah some things are just kinda easy to decide."

Q: What was the creative process for composing the soundtrack?

"Creatively, Craig is an explorer, an experimenter, and so I tried to clear the diary as much as possible for this film so that we could play, and so Craig came to the studio here and we experimented, we found new ways to use old sounds; we used sounds from the soundtrack, we would make a piece of music that we were going to use for a restaurant sauce scene and it became the opening cue in the film, we would just try to take pleasure in the process so that actually where we ended up wasn’t where we started and that’s a beautiful journey to have. "

Q: What was unique about the compositions for Eternal Beauty?

"I think every film score really, if it can attach and involve itself with the characters in the film, becomes unique almost by accident. So I think trying to set off to deliberately do something that is different or innovative has never really worked for me, I have just always been much more interested in trying to find what’s inside the film, what music really insights the characters and what illuminates it from within, and that way the music sometimes turns out unique, in a unique way and it’s by glorious accident and I think that’s what happened here with Eternal Beauty."
