BIOG

Former member of the British rock group Dire Straits, composer / guitarist Hal Lindes is an award winning Anglo-American film composer based in both Los Angeles and London, with recording studios in both cities. After touring and performing around the world, Hal discovered his passion for composing to film while playing guitar on Mark Knopfler's for Local Hero.

He has composed over 150 scores for Film and Television, winning many awards including a Royal Television Society Award for the BAFTA-nominated series Reckless and a TRIC Award in the Best TV Theme Music category for Thief Takers. He is best known for his compellingly honest, richly evocative and emotionally unique guitar scores for films like The Boys Are Back (Miramax, directed by Scott Hicks and staring Clive Owen), in which his score is paired with songs by Sigur Rós, Ray Lamontage and Carla Bruni.

Hal’s long running working relationship with Kay Mellor involved Hal scoring Band of Gold, In The Club, Girlfriends and all four seasons of the BBC hit drama The Syndicate. He also wrote and recorded the score for the stage play of Band of Gold.

Other Film & TV credits include Between The Lines, Accidental Farmer, Albert’s Memorial, Apparitions, ShakespeaRe Retold, Ny-Lon. Placements of Hal’s work for various Production Music labels have provided further wide, global usage and exposure of his music. Alongside his composing career, Hal has always continued to collaborate and write with various artists including Tina Turner, Johnny Hallyday, Gary Brooker, Roger Daltrey, Chris Jagger, Al Kooper, Kiki Dee, Twiggy.

Hal has recently written and recorded with Bird (Janie Price) on film and artist projects, including on her series of eps for release across 2025.
