Blood Red Shoes is Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell. Formed in late 2004, Blood Red Shoes started releasing a string of 7″ records in 2005 on various independent labels, recording them themselves in their practice space on a 16 track tape machine, for which Laura-Mary would screen or design the sleeves. To this day they’re very hands-on about every aspect of how their music is made, recorded and presented to the world.
In 2008 they released their first album, Box of Secrets, on V2 records. Co-produced with Mike Crossey, it encapsulates most of the live songs they were playing up until they recorded, plus a couple of new songs written just before they went into the studio. Before and after its release they toured all over UK and the rest of Europe, along with shows in Japan and the USA. In 2010 they released their second album, Fire Like This, also made with Mike Crossey. To date they’ve played in excess of 450 shows, ranging from playing in the kitchen of someone’s flat to 3 people, to playing below Rage Against the Machine to 30,000 Parisians.
