Janie Price aka “BIRD” is an award winning half English, half Irish singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She is based in London UK and Tuscany Italy. She started her classical music training on cello aged 6 and learnt drums from age 11. The unlikely pairing, born from a love of Jaqueline Du Pre and John Bonham saw her play in youth orchestras and rock bands.
At 18 she started her professional career as a session musician which has seen her play for the likes of Emeli Sande, Roachford and Just Jack to name a few. As a songwriter she’s written numerous hits including no 1’s in Belgium with Hooverphonic including singing and co-writing their hit “I Like The Way I Dance” and “In Wonderland” and single “Queen of Pearls” for Swedish country stars “The Tennessee Tears” as well as the English version of San Remo winning hit “Capolavoro” for platinum selling Italian band “Il Volo”. She’s written with many of the industry’s best loved musicians including Andy Dunlop (Travis), James Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers), Shelly Poole (Alisha’s Attic), Charlie Sexton (Bob Dylan).
Her first short film for which she wrote the script, music and co-produced, has won 9 festival awards including the Global Music Silver Medal Award and the Performance/Aviva Short Film Best Drama Award. She has self released four singles from this project which have garnered significant support from radio including BBC Radio 2, BBC 5Live, BBC Wales, BBC Oxfordshire (track of the week), BBC Ulster and Belgian national stations Radio 2 (12 weeks in playlist) and RTBF Jam (12 weeks playlisted)
Currently releasing singles from her forthcoming EP “Heads or Tales” (second single “Daddy” Record Of The Day 7th February 2025), she is also making her second short film, a documentary based on the story that made the lyrics of the EP’s first track “Roy”. Due for release late 2025 about two of rock and roll’s greatest legends, a dead body, a band of thieves and one girl’s search for the truth…
She is also mixing the last tracks for a new studio album “Welcome To The Show” co written with talents including Grammy winner John Paul White (The Civil Wars) and Hal Lindes (Dire Straits) produced by Mike Hedges (Travis, The Cure) .
In-between mixing and editing you can catch her live show as she will be touring across North America with confirmed dates throughout 2025.
She runs non profit song writing camps at her studio in Italy and speaks Italian. She’s a voting member of The Ivors, PRS, Musician’s Union. ALCS, Americana Association (USA), Folk Alliance (USA) AWFC (Alliance for Women Film Composers) and WSA (World Soundtrack Awards).
